Open Acreage
The 3rd Cycle of ANP's Open Acreage in the Production-Sharing model had five blocks in the Pre-Salt area acquired
In the 3rd Cycle of the Open Acreage in the Production-Sharing model, held yesterday (October 22nd) by ANP in Rio de Janeiro, five of the seven blocks on offer were acquired, all in the Pre-Salt Polygon: Esmeralda and Ametista, in the Santos Basin; and Citrino, Itaimbezinho, and Jaspe, in the Campos Basin.
The signing bonuses for the five blocks, which are fixed and determined in the Open Acreage bidding document, totaled R$ 103,728,181.09. The estimated investment in the first phase of the contracts alone (exploration phase) is R$ 451,498,600.00.
The current number of exploration blocks under the production-sharing regime was increased by 50%, from 10 to 15 blocks. As a result, the production-sharing exploration area will also be expanded by approximately 50%, to 24,800 km².
All blocks auctioned had surpluses of profit oil for the Federal State higher than the minimum established in the bidding document. The average profit oil premium was 91.20%. The highest premium was 251.63%, in the Citrino block.
Under the production-sharing regime, part of the oil and gas produced by companies is allocated to the Federal Government – the so-called "percentage of profit oil". The percentage of this profit oil that will go to the Federal State is offered by bidders in the auction, based on the minimum established in the bidding document, and is the criterion for determining the winners.

Eight companies submitted bids, five of which were successful. Two of the winners, Karoon and Sinopec, are new to the production-sharing system in Brazil.
Recently, ANP improved the Open Acreage bidding document, seeking to make the auction more attractive. As a result, independent companies, in addition to the major oil companies, registered for the third cycle for the first time.
The contracts are scheduled to be signed by May 29, 2026.
