New Year in Copacabana will celebrate Rio+20

The Minister of the Environment, Izabella Teixeira, welcomed the news that the New Year's Eve party in Copacabana beach this year will have the Rio+20 Conference as its theme. The decision was taken by the city government and announced last Friday (July 8).

For the minister, the initiative is an example of the commitment necessary for the success of the conference, which will be held by the UN in the city of Rio de Janeiro in June 2012. "All we need is society's commitment, and the city government of Rio de Janeiro has set an example. Rio+20 will make 2012 the year of sustainable development", said the minister.
