What is SisGen 3.0?
SisGen 3.0 is the update of the technological infrastructure of the National System for Genetic Heritage and Associated Traditional Knowledge Management (SisGen).
The software corresponding to the new version of SisGen, approved by the Genetic Heritage Management Council (CGen), pursuant to CGen Resolution No. 53 of September 16, 2026, brings together functionalities to comply with Brazilian legislation on access to genetic heritage, protection and access to associated traditional knowledge, and benefit-sharing.
Prior to its approval by CGen, SisGen 3.0 underwent external testing with the participation of users and institutions — companies, academia, and government. Approximately 390 contributions were received, of which 307 were incorporated, resulting in improvements to data-entry fields and filling rules, genetic heritage search, translation into English, Terms of Use, notification-related information, rules for information on the geographic coordinates of the origin of the genetic heritage subject of the research, and user guidance messages.

SisGen 3.0
in Numbers
SisGen is used by educational and research institutions, companies, and other users who carry out research and technological development activities related to genetic heritage (GH) and associated traditional knowledge (ATK), as well as by public servants, to fulfill the obligations established by brazilian legislation on access and benefit-sharing.
The CGen Resolution No. 53 of 2026 established that the software containing the functionalities implemented in SisGen 3.0 would be made available to users for a 60-day familiarization period, beginning on October 1, 2026. During the familiarization period, users will have access to a User Guide in Portuguese and English, as guidance material to assist them in using the new system’s functionalities, as well as a User Support service, with a team from the Executive Secretariat of CGen available to assist users. User support will be provided in Portuguese and English.
The CGen Resolution No. 53 of 2026 reaffirms that making this software containing the functionalities implemented in SisGen 3.0 available for the familiarization period does not constitute the official release of SisGen 3.0 and will not affect the running of statutory deadlines related to the availability of registration in the system.
Among the resources available in the software to be used during the SisGen 3.0 familiarization period are:
- new architecture and data infrastructure;
- updated system functionalities to ensure compliance with CGen regulations;
- organization and traceability of information; and
- resources for data management and governance.
English Version
The software features made available during the familiarization period will also be available in English, providing access to information and procedures by foreign individuals and institutions. These functionalities include the use of a passport as an official identification document for foreign users and the use of the ISIC (International Standard Industrial Classification) as an alternative to CNAE (National Classification of Economic Activities) in certain procedures.

How will the transition to SisGen 3.0 take place?
The transition to the new system will take place gradually, according to the following stages:

Data is migrated and undergo technical checks. - Technical Checks and Adjustments
The necessary adjustments are carried out for the system to be made available. - Official Release
Publication of the official act of CGen’s Executive Secretariat making SisGen 3.0 available.
Operation of the Current SisGen Version and Data Migration
The current SisGen continues to operate
During the transition phase, the system currently in use will remain in operation. Making the SisGen 3.0 familiarization software available does not yet mean the official replacement of the current version.
What happens to the data
Existing data will be considered as part of the migration process, with technical checks and any necessary adjustments. After the official release of SisGen 3.0, the current system will be maintained only as a repository of registered information, for consultation and preservation of historical records, without the possibility of entering new data.
What is planned after the official release of SisGen 3.0
SisGen 3.0 will continue to evolve after its official release, through a continuous improvement process, with the gradual incorporation of new resources, including modules and functionalities addressing the following topics:
Accreditation of institutions maintaining ex situ collections;
- Registration with the Biodiversity Authorization and Information System (Sisbio);
- Certificate of Regularity;
- Registration Amendment;
- Certificate of No Outstanding Issues;
- Power BI dashboards;
- Alert System;
- International Agreements;
- Non-Monetary Benefit-Sharing Agreement Module (ARB-NM).

1. Will the current SisGen continue to operate?
Yes. During the transition phase, the currently used SisGen will remain in operation.
