VITEM I - Research
General information
The temporary visa VITEM I may be issued to those who, without entering in an employment relationship with the target Brazilian institution, wish to come to Brazil in any of the following cases:
I. Beneficiary of scholarship granted by foundations supporting higher education, scientific and technological research institutions, for research in a Brazilian institution of higher education, be it public or private, recognized by the Ministry of Education;
II. Beneficiary of scholarship financed by CNPq, CAPES , FINEP and other public institutions fostering research;
III. To scientist, researcher or professional coming to Brazil under an international agreement;
IV. To those intending to take part in research projects established between a foreign and a Brazilian Institution. If the stay in Brazil is shorter than 90 days, a VIVIS should be applied for instead. The applicant must also have on hand the respective authorization from the Brazilian Ministry of Science (MCTIC) for the intended activity;
V. Scientists, researchers or professionals, for the purpose of conducting scientific researches that are not regulated by Decree No. 98.830/1990;
VI. Teachers, when financially supported by the institution at the country of origin, due to agreements between that institution and its Brazilian counterpart;
VII. Scientists, researchers and teachers with an employment relationship.
How to apply
Visa applications are processed exclusively by prior appointment through the e-Consular system. All required documentation must be submitted via the e-Consular platform for review and approval by the Consulate. Applications submitted by post will not be processed.
Once your application is submitted, it will be review by a consular officer. If there are any issues with the documentation, the applicant will be notified by email and asked to provide the necessary corrections or additional documents through the system.
After the application is approved, another email notification will be sent with instructions to schedule the date and time of your appointment at the Consulate through the e-Consular system.

For those applying for a Visa under sections I and II: a) Declaration issued by the institution sponsoring the scholarship; b) Signed Term of Commitment. |

For those applying vor a Visa under section III: a) internation agreement, affidavit, protocol or any other document containing express mention to the coming of the immigrant; b) proof of qualification for the proposed activity; c) official invitation, referring to the international agreement as the basis of the trip, as well as living conditions, activities to be pursued, intended length of stay as well as declaration that financing will not come from a Brazilian source. |

For those applying for a Visa under section IV: a) copy of the decree issued by MCTIC authorizing the activities; b) Signed Term of Commitment. |
| 6d | Section VII | Visas issued under this section must first be approved by the Brazilian Ministry of Labor (Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego - MTE). Only after the official approval is communicated to us should the interested person or persons apply for the Visa at the Consulate. |

The Visa Fee will not be reimbursed in case of:
(i) the Visa is denegated;
(ii) the Visa is not issued;
(iii) the applicants give up the trip.
