General information

The marriage of a Brazilian citizen abroad must be registered with the Consular Section to produce legal effects before the consular offices of Brazil abroad.
In order for it to produce full legal effects in Brazil, the marriage certificate issued by the Consular Section must be transcribed at a 1st Civil Registry Office in Brazil.
The Consular Sector can only register marriages celebrated in the State of Israel or, if celebrated outside the jurisdiction of the post, of Brazilian citizens residing in Israel.
Israeli law does not allow the Consular Section to celebrate marriages at the Embassy.
The modification of the name of the Brazilian spouse (or of their parents), even if proven with an Israeli official document, is not valid in Brazil, since the change of names in Brazil is only possible through a court decision. Therefore, the Consular Sector will not be able to proceed with the consular registration of marriage if the foreign marriage certificate presents the name of the Brazilian parties with a different spelling from their Brazilian documents.
The property regime of the marriage must be that defined in accordance with the laws of the country of the couple's first domicile. The legal supplementary regime of the State of Israel, under the terms of the Law on Patrimonial Relations between Spouses, of 1973, makes the Brazilian regime of goods adopted as the Partial Communion of Goods (Comunhão Parcial de Bens).
The marriage can be registered in one Brazilian Consular Section only.
Both spouses must attend on the day of the appointment.
The consular marriage registration request must be made through the e-consular system. After validation by the system, an appointment must be scheduled for the declarant to come personally to the Consulate.
The registration of marriage in a consular office has a cost of 80.00 NIS, to be paid at the time of attendance, in cash. The Consular Section does not accept cards. Each duplicate costs 20.00 NIS.

Required documents

Please check carefully the required documentation on the table below:

1	Marriage registration form	The form must be completed before coming for the appointment and signed by the declarant.
2	Original and photocopy of the British marriage certificate	The document's full form must be submitted - Certified Copy of an Entry. No previous legalisation is necessary. Please note: if the marriage certificate has been issued in a country other than the United Kingdom, click here to learn how to proceed.
3	Original and photocopy of the prenuptial agreement (if existent)	Prenuptial agreement drawn up in the United Kingdom must be presented, if existent. The agreement has to be apostillised by the FCO.
4	Original and photocopy of the Brazilian spouse's documents	The following documents shall be accepted: a) Brazilian passport; or b) Brazilian identity card (RG); or c) Brazilian driving licence (CNH) with photo; or d) Identity card issued and regulated by a Federal professional body. The following document, dependent on the applicant's marital status before marriage, must also be submitted: If single: Brazilian birth certificate, issued no more than six months ago; or If divorced: Brazilian marriage certificate, issued no more than six months ago, containing the divorce entry; or If widowed: Brazilian marriage certificate, issued no more than six months ago, containing the death entry of the late spouse.
5	Original and photocopy of the foreign spouse's documents	The following documents must be submitted: Valid passport; and Birth certificate (if British, submit the full birth certificate), or another identification document which contains the parents' full names; and Declaration stating one has never been married to a Brazilian national. The declaration is not required if the marriage certificate states that the spouse's marital status at the time of the marriage was "single". In all other cases, or if the certificate does not mention the marital status of the foreign spouse at the time of the marriage, it is necessary to present the declaration, which must be signed at the Consulate. In the event the foreign spouse cannot be present, a solicitor or a notary public must certify ones signature, which must then be apostillised by the FCO. If divorced, the following documents must also be submitted: Decree absolute or official divorce document, if the former spouse is a foreign national; or Brazilian marriage certificate with the divorce entry; or original divorce decree, if the former spouse is Brazilian. If widowed, the late spouse's death certificate must also be submitted. 6	Original and photocopy of a document attesting the change of name due to marriage (if this is the case)	One of the following documents displaying the change of name must be submitted: a) British passport; or b) British visa with photo or biometric residence permit card; or c) British driving licence; or d) CitizenCard (former Validate UK - proof of age); or e) British birth certificate of the couple's child.
