Work - Technical Assistance or Technology Transfer (VITEM V)
This type of visa is issued exclusively to qualified foreign professionals required to provide technical assistance (based on Normative Resolution 03/2017) or technology transfer services (based on Normative Resolution 04/2017) to a company based in Brazil, with no employment relationship, by virtue of contract or agreement with the company, and is for a stay of more than 90 days.
GENERAL RULES
- Technical Assistance or Technology Transfer Visas are subject to prior approval by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The process must be initiated in Brazil, by the sponsoring company (on behalf of the applicant), with submission of the pertinent application and supporting documentation to that Ministry.
- Once the procedure in Brazil is concluded and approved, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security will transmit the authorisation to the Embassy via the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Only then the applicant be able to proceed and lodge the visa application itself with the Embassy by submitting the documentation listed below.

Passport valid for at least six months prior to its expiration date and must have at least two blank pages. |

One passport photo |
Photo must be in color, front view, white background, size 4x5 cm (document/passport size), printed in photographic paper and taken recently. The same photo cannot be used for more than one application. |

Police background check |
The document must be issued in English (international model) by the country of residence (if not issued by Norwegian or Icelandic authorities, the documents must be apostilled by the competent authority in the country of origin). If the applicant has lived in multiple countries within the last 12 months, a police background check from each country of residence must be provided. They must also be duly legalised (contain an apostille) by the competent authority in the issuing country and, if necessary, translated by a certified translator. The document must be stamped and signed by the local authority and must be issued not more than 90 days prior to delivery to this Embassy. The electronic version will not be accepted. Please note: police background checks are not required in case of ‘simplified’ authorisations (i.e. for urgent or emergency services), with maximum stays of up to 180 days. |

The name of the sender must be written on the envelope. It is also necessary to include a self-addressed, prepaid return envelope. The Embassy cannot be held responsible for lost or delayed mail.
REGISTRATION WITH THE FEDERAL POLICE
Holders of this type of visa must register with the Federal Police within 90 days from first entry in Brazil. Contact the Federal Police directly to learn how to register.
LENGTH OF STAY IN BRAZIL
Validity period: limit date/deadline for the first entry in Brazil to take place – counted from the date of issue of the visa. Up to 1 year.
Duration of stay: period during which the individual is allowed to remain in Brazil – counted from the date of first entry in the country. Up to 2 years, according to authorisation from the Ministry of Justice and National Security.
Extension of stay: extension subject to approval by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
FAMILY REUNION
Dependants (spouse, partner, children, other) may be granted a Family Reunion Visa (VITEM XI), bound to the primary VITEM V application, thus subject to the same conditions (e.g. same length of stay etc.). Family applications may be lodged jointly or after the primary applicant’s VITEM V has been issued.
