Private power of attorney
What it is
This is a power of attorney whose text is drawn up by the interested party themselves and, in order to be effective vis-à-vis third parties, their signature must be certified by authenticity or similarity at the Consulate General.
⚠️ It is recommended that the interested party checks the possibility of using a private power of attorney or the requirement for a public power of attorney with the body/institution before which the power of attorney will be presented.
Who can apply?
Brazilians and foreigners who hold the National Migration Registration Card - CRNM (formerly the RNE).

With the necessary documents in hand, book the service through the e-Consular system. Check out the system tutorial here.

⚠️ Before requesting this service, it is advisable to check with the body for which the document is intended whether there is a restriction on notarization by similarity.
⚠️ The signature on the document to be notarized must be similar to the one in the consular register.
Power of attorney for the INSS
The signature on a private power of attorney for the INSS must be notarized (signed in the presence of the Consulate official). The interested party must be resident in the Consulate's jurisdiction.
The documents can be requested by Brazilian citizens, foreign citizens who hold a valid National Migration Registration Card (CRNM) (or an expired one, as long as the holder has reached the age of 60 by the expiration date) and have regular migration status in Brazil - in other words, who have not had their visa canceled or been absent from Brazil for more than two consecutive years.
In the case of a private power of attorney, the interested party must appear in person at the Consulate to register their signature on an autograph card and present:
| 1 | Brazilian identification document |
|
| 2 | Form | Duly completed, without abbreviations or erasures, to be signed in the presence of the consular officer. ⚠️ Disable your browser's pop-up blocker to open the form. |
The service is free of charge.
If not possible to be present at the Consulate, applicants – including foreigners who do not have a valid CRNM (RNE) – must have their signature on the document notarized (面前 – menzen) by a notary public and then have the document apostilled (Hague Apostille) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Gaimusho (address below) to take effect in Brazil.
💡 Notaries public based in Hokkaido (in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice in the Sapporo region), Miyagi, Tokyo and Kanagawa are able to issue the Hague Apostille directly, without the need for the documents to be submitted to the Gaimusho.
