Funeral urn contents declaration
What it is
For the transfer of the deceased's ashes to Brazil, a Declaration of Funeral Urn Contents may be required by the airline. This declaration must be notarized at the Consulate.
💡 The Consulate can notarize the signature of Brazilian nationals and foreigners with a valid CRNM and regular migratory status in Brazil.
⚠️ Foreigners who do not have a valid CRNM must take the Declaration to a Japanese notary public to have their signature recognized and then to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (外務省) to have the Hague Apostille issued. Notaries public based in Tokyo and Kanagawa are able to issue the Hague Apostille directly, without the need for documents to be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
