Specific cases
Beneficiaries who are unable to attend the Consulate General
If the person concerned is unable to request the document in person at the Consulate, they can obtain a certificate of life by following the instructions below:
- Fill out the attestation of life and sign it in the presence of a Japanese notary public (公証人役場), who will notarize the signature (面前認証).
- With the signature notarized, authenticate or apostille (Hague Apostille) the document with the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Gaimusho (外務省) so that it can take effect in Brazil
💡 Notaries public based in Hokkaido (in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice in the Sapporo region), Miyagi, Tokyo and Kanagawa can issue the Hague Apostille directly, without the need for documents to be submitted to the Gaimusho.
⚠️ There is no need for consular legalization after apostille. - Send the Certificate of Life directly to the INSS with which you are registered.
⚠️ The document will be valid for 90 days from the date of issue.
