REDE ANDIFES ISF CALL FOR APPLICATIONS – PORTUGUESE AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
The National Association of Directors of Federal Higher Education Institutions (ANDIFES), within the scope of the Rede ANDIFES Idiomas sem Fronteiras (IsF), in line with the objective of promoting internationalisation through language education, announces this public call for applications to fill available places for free online Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PFL) courses.
This document outlines the criteria, procedures, and deadlines for the selection of candidates interested in participating in the Rede ANDIFES IsF courses.
1. COURSE DESCRIPTION
1.1 Format

The courses are conducted exclusively online and are free of charge.

Classes are synchronous, usually with two live online sessions per week.

Each session lasts two hours (4 hours per week).

In some cases, courses are offered in a single weekly meeting of 4 hours (2 blocks of 2 hours with a break).

Classes are delivered via a digital platform (link sent after acceptance).
1.2 Target Audience
-
Open to foreigners worldwide, regardless of any link to a Brazilian or foreign university.
1.3 Course Levels
-
Courses are structured according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Levels offered: A1 (Beginner), A2 (Elementary), B1 (Intermediate), B2 (Upper-Intermediate).
1.4 Duration
-
Courses last 4, 8, or 12 weeks, with a workload of 16, 32, or 48 hours.
1.5 Languages of Mediation
-
All courses are taught in Portuguese.

Some may allow mediation in other languages (depending on the instructor).
2. NUMBER OF PLACES
-
A total of 600 places are available across multiple classes.
-
Each class has a maximum of 25 students and a waiting list of 20 students.
-
Minimum for a class to open: 5 students.
-
Up to 10 places per class may be reserved for students of the hosting Brazilian university.

Affirmative action policies:
-
20% of places reserved for self-declared black, indigenous, Roma, and quilombola applicants.
-
5 places per class reserved for persons with disabilities (PwD), upon medical documentation.
-

Unused reserved places revert to general competition.
3. APPLICATION PROCESS
3.1 Application Period

Opens: 22 August 2025 (12:00 Brasília time)

Closes: 1 September 2025 (12:00 Brasília time)
3.2 How to Apply

Applications must be submitted exclusively online via Google account, through:

Candidates may apply to more than one course if schedules do not overlap (one form per course).
3.3 Required Documents
-
Valid ID (Passport, RNE, RNM, or CPF).
-
Proof of proficiency or self-declaration of ability (if required for the chosen level).

Proof of affiliation with a university (only if applying for university-reserved seats).
3.4 Important Notes
-
Candidates who enrolled in 2024-2 or 2025-1 but did not finish, justify withdrawal, or fill the evaluation form are not eligible.

Confirmation emails will be sent 48 hours before classes start.

4. SELECTION CRITERIA

Applications processed in order of submission.
-
Complete documentation is mandatory.
-
Candidates exceeding the required level may have applications rejected.
-
Attendance at the first two classes is compulsory to confirm the seat. Absence without justification leads to cancellation and a ban from the next two calls.
5. CERTIFICATION
-
Certificates issued to students who attend at least 80% of classes and complete the required activities.
-
Certificates sent by email after the course evaluation form is completed.
-
Certificates may be used to prove proficiency level for future IsF applications.
