Diplomatic and Official Visas (VIDIP and VISOF)

General rules

The diplomatic visa is granted to diplomats, government staff or employees of International Organizations with diplomatic status on an official mission to Brazil, either permanent or temporary.
The official visa is granted for those on an official mission to Brazil, either permanent or temporary, without diplomatic status.
The request must be done by Diplomatic Note from the government or organization that the applicant will be representing.
The visa will be issued for the duration of the mission, as approved by the authorities in Brazil.
For stays over 90 days, holders of this type of visa must register with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs within 30 days of entry in the country and submit a copy of the visa application form provided by this Consulate.
This visa cannot be issued on passports from Kosovo, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and Taiwan, as Brazil does not maintain diplomatic relations with these countries.

Validity period:

Up to 3 years. On a reciprocity basis, this visa may be issued for a longer period, if specified in the Diplomatic Note.

Required documents

Please note that you must bring the original documents to the appointment:

	Document	Remarks
1	Applicant’s valid passport	Must have at least two blank pages. Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes; Valid for no less than 6 months (damaged or defaced passports will not be accepted).
2	One 3.5 x 4.5cm size photograph	The photo must be recent, with white background. The photo must show a natural appearance, without any filters, digital alterations (Photoshop), or heavy makeup.
3	Visa application form	Must be filled in online Online Visa Application Form; Click "SEND" to receive your processing number and receipt; Please print and bring the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER) to the appointment.; It is very important to state the parents’ full names, as displayed in your birth/marriage certificate. For minor children (under 18 years old), the printed RER must be signed by both parents. Please note: the Consulate will only accept applications in which the required documents on this table have been uploaded to the form.
	Passport	Valid for no less than 6 months (damaged or defaced passports will not be accepted); With at least 2 blank visa pages remaining (exluding those marked for amendments and observations).
	Diplomatic Note	Issued by the foreign government or international organization stating the details of the applicant’s assignment in Brazil.: Full name and nationality of the applicant; Passport/Laissez-passer type, number, issuing country/organization and date of expiry; For representatives of international organizations travelling without a Laissez-passer, the Note must also inform and justify such event. Official title and position of the applicant; Objective, place and duration of the mission; Point of contact in Brazil and their contact information; Requests for reciprocity treatment (as applicable) If the applicant is willing to travel accompanied by their spouse / partner / children, click here to check their eligibilty. If eligible, the Diplomatic Note must name the accompanying family members. For members of the family other than spouse, partner or children under the age of 21, a courtesy visa (VICOR) may be granted.

Visa Fee and Processing Time

Diplomatic and Official Visas are free of charge.

Lodging your application, processing times & visa collection

After completing the online visa application form, please bring the original documents listed above to the Embassy, which operates Monday through Friday from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. There is no need to book an appointment. Visas are processed in 24 hours, with collection on the next working day.

Please note that processing time may be extended in times of heavy workload or due to unforeseen circumstances.
