CPF
IMPORTANT NOTICE: ANNUAL REGISTRATION FOR NON-BRAZILIANS CPF NUMBERS
Throughout 2025, all non-Brazilians CPFs ("Cadastro de Pessoa Física") should be re-registered. The procedure must be repeated, annually, by non-Brazilian CPF holders with address outside Brazil.
To carry out the CPF re-registration procedure, download or update the Federal Revenue Service/RECEITA FEDERAL (RFB) app and: a) provide your CPF registration number and date of birth; b) take a photograph of your face and passport via the RFB application; c) fill in the registration information requested by the application.
If there is a discrepancy in the CPF data during the procedure via the app, it will not be possible to complete the re-registration. In this case, you must visit a Brazilian consular office, presenting, as required, the error message generated by the application and one of the following documents: a) Passport; b) National Migration Registration Card (CRNM) or the old Foreigner Identity Card (CIE/RNE); or c) until June 30, 2025, an identification document issued by the Member States of Mercosur and associated States (after this date, presenting the passport will be mandatory).
General Information
The CPF number is assigned once (unique and definitive), with no possibility of a second registration. The CPF number will be generated at the time of issuance and will appear on the receipt that will be given to the applicant. The number must be kept in a safe/memorized place, as a "CPF Card" will no longer be issued.
Anyone who has forgotten their CPF number should request it in Brazil, from the Receita Federal, as due to tax secrecy, this issue cannot be solved in the Embassy. If necessary, the request may be made by a representative of the interested party in Brazil, by a power of attorney. Foreigners must draw up a power of attorney at a local public notary, apostille the document and then translate it into Portuguese with a sworn public translator.
As set out in Joint COCAD/COGEA Ordinance No. 53/2023, foreigners who are abroad must present their CPF requests to Brazilian consular offices abroad, through in-person service.
The response regarding the completion of the service, accompanied, where applicable, by the relevant documents, will be sent by email to the address indicated in the FCPF (Individual Person Registration Form).
The service is free.
