Passport for minors (under 18 years old)
If the minor was born abroad and has not yet been registered at a Brazilian consular office, the birth registration must be completed before applying for the passport.
Passport applications will not be processed if documentation is incomplete.
To request this service at the Embassy of Brazil in Lusaka, please gather the required documentation:
ATTENTION: Any document that does not allow full identification of the holder, either due to age, erasure, or damage, will not be accepted and the request will be denied.

Brazilian documents proving
the minor’s identity
(not required if this is the first passport): |
Original and copy of one of the following documents: - Brazilian passport, even if expired. If the previous passport cannot be presented, provide the RG along with the non-presentation/loss of passport form duly completed, as well as a police report; - Identity card (RG) issued by the Public Security Department of any Brazilian state (including the digital version - DNI). |

Authorization form for issuing
a travel document for a minor, signed in the presence of a consular authority or a notary public:

- by both parents, or the legal guardian; - by only one parent, or legal guardian, in the event of death or loss of parental authority of the other. In case of death, a death certificate must be provided. In case of loss of parental authority, a Brazilian court decision or foreign judgment duly apostilled/legalized must be provided; and - by the only parent listed on the birth certificate or identity document. NOTE 1: If parents disagree on granting the minor’s travel document, the document will only be issued by express court decision (Brazilian or foreign, duly apostilled/legalized); NOTE 2: If the other parent is in Brazil, they must sign the passport/travel authorization form and have the signature authenticated in person by a notary public. Photograph |
One standard passport-size photo (5 x 7 cm). The photo must be taken from the front, with a white background, and be less than 6 months old. |

Parents’ identification documents |
If Brazilian: - Valid passport, or expired within the last 2 years; or - Official Brazilian photo ID (RG, CNH, Work Card, etc.). If foreigner: - Valid passport. |

Payment of consular fee |
40 reais-ouro (equivalent to USD 40.00) if the minor is under 4 years of age, or 80 reais-ouro (equivalent to USD 80.00) if the minor is between 4 and under 18 years of age. |

It is recommended that payment be made directly at the bank branch, using the following details:

The bank receipt must be presented, including the exchange rate applied, if applicable.
Processing time
Up to 7 business days after the request is received at the Embassy of Brazil in Lusaka.
Passport validity
The passport for minors will have validity defined according to their age, as follows:
Between 4 and under 18 years old > passport valid for 5 years. (Note: If the current valid passport is not presented, the new passport will be valid for 4 years.)
