MILITARY ENLISTMENT
ATTENTION: To request for this service and clarify any questions, please send an e-mail to consular.doha@itamaraty.gov.br.
The request must be made by the Brazilian citizen in question.
MILITARY ENLISTMENT
The Military Enlistment is compulsory for all male Brazilians. Brazilian citizens living abroad must send an e-mail to the Consular Section of the Brazilian Embassy in Doha to enlist by June 30 of the year in which they turn 18.
Enlistment remains compulsory even if the citizen does not meet the deadline. In this case, the same procedure must be followed, but the Brazilian will be subject to a fine for the delay.
How to apply for military enlistment
1) Prepare all the mandatory documentation:
a) Birth or marriage certificate;
b) Passport and/or a Brazilian identity document with a photograph, which allows the citizen to be clearly identified;
c) Certificate of Naturalization, in the case of naturalized Brazilians;
d) Certificate of Option of Nationality, in the case of citizens who have opted for Brazilian nationality;
e) proof of residence abroad (can be the QID);
f) duly completed military enlistment form.
2) Send the documentation to consular.doha@itamaraty.gov.br:
Check that all the copies of the documents are legible, including the completed and signed form, and send them to consular.doha@itamaraty.gov.br. The documents will be checked and the process will begin. The Military Enlistment Certificate will be generated digitally and sent to the applicant via e-mail. The process will not be started if the documents are pending or illegible.
While living abroad, Military Enlistment Certificates must be presented annually to the Consular Section of the Embassy of Brazil in Doha for annotation, because of postponement of incorporation. If not possible, the citizens must regularize their military situation in the first 30 days of their arrival in Brazil.
EXEMPTION FROM MILITARY SERVICE
Exemption from military service can be requested through the Consular Section of the Brazilian Embassy in Doha for the following reasons:
a) by age limit: from May 1st of the year in which the citizen turns 28;
b) by length of residence abroad: for citizens who can prove they have lived abroad for a period of three months or more.
Once these conditions have been met, exemption from military service can be requested at the same time as military enlistment.
