MARRIAGE REGISTRATION

The marriage registration will be based on the marriage certificate issued by the foreign authorities. If the foreign marriage certificate does not mention that there has been a change in the name of the spouse/s after marriage, we will not make the change in the consular registry either.

“It is considered a crime: (1) to contract a new marriage, being married (art. 235 of the Criminal Code); and (ii) to omit, in a public or private
(ii) to omit, in a public or private document, a statement that should appear therein, or to insert or cause to be inserted therein a false statement or a statement

fact (art. 299 of the Criminal Code)”

Documentation required for the Consular Registration of Marriage

Marriage Registration - if celebrated in Qatar:

• Original marriage certificate, issued by the Qatari authorities. If the document is in Arabic, provide a translation of the local marriage certificate, legalized by the Chamber of Commerce (Chamber of Commerce legalization stamp and seal), and
• Prenuptial agreement (if any).

Marriage Registration - if celebrated outside of Qatar

The Marriage registration must be requested from the consular office with jurisdiction over the place where the marriage was celebrated. Only when this is not possible, the marriage registration can be requested at another consular office. The Marriage Registration will be carried out as long as the consular authority is fully sure of the authenticity of the certificate to be registered.

• Original foreign marriage certificate previously legalized by the consular office with jurisdiction over the place where the marriage was contracted;
• Translation of the foreign marriage certificate issued outside Qatar, and
• Prenuptial agreement (if any).

→ If the foreign certificate is not legalized or apostilled, please email us for more information about the necessity for legalization before paying the consular fee.

Documents to be presented by the Brazilian spouse:

• Valid Brazilian identity document or passport - original and copy;
• A second copy of the birth certificate issued less than 6 months previously by a notary's office in Brazil (the date of issue of the duplicate cannot be older than 180 days from the date of application for consular registration of marriage);
• If divorced or widowed, provide equivalent document  issued less than 6 months previously by a notary's office in Brazil (the date of issue of the duplicate cannot be older than 180 days from the date of application for consular registration of marriage), and
• Marriage registration form duly completed and signed by the declarant, who must be the spouse of Brazilian nationality;

Documents to be presented by the foreign spouse:

• Passport or valid identity document;
• Birth registration certificate, original and copy;
• If divorced or widowed, provide equivalent document , and
• Declaration that he/she is not divorced from a Brazilian citizen, which will be signed also before the Consular Authority.

→ If none of the documents above mentioned (passport, Birth Certificate, ID) contains the full name of the parents, kindly send us an aditional document where we can find this information.

To request for this service, send an email to consular.doha@itamaraty.gov.br. Kindly make sure you have all necessary documentation and have filled out the form/s correctly before your request. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Requests without the necessary documentation will not be processed. The consular agent may request other documents if necessary.
