Individual Taxpayer Number (CPF)
Foreign citizens of any age who own or wish to own assets or shares in Brazil subject to public registration, including properties, vehicles, vessels, aircraft, corporate shares, single or joint bank accounts or financial market applications must register with the Individual Taxpayer Registry (Cadastro de Pessoa Física - CPF).
The CPF number is assigned only once (it is unique and definitive), and does not allow a second registration. The CPF number will be generated at the time of issuance and will appear on the receipt that will be given to the applicant. The number must be kept in a safe place or memorised, as "CPF Cards" are no longer issued.
