Certificate of Residency out of Brazil (Atestado de Residência)
The residence certificate proves, to the Federal Revenue Service, Federal Police, or any other public or private entity, that a specific citizen, Brazilian or foreign, resided abroad for a certain period.
Presenting the residence certificate to the Federal Revenue Service is usually required for customs tax exemptions upon permanent return to Brazil after residing abroad for an uninterrupted period of more than one year.
The period recorded in the residence certificate must be duly proven by the citizen.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to verify whether the declared period meets the requirements of the entity to which the certificate is addressed, such as the Federal Revenue Service or the Department of Transit.
