Statement by the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations, Ambassador Sérgio França Danese, at the Seminar “Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Taiwan’s - Recovery and Upholding the Authority of General Assembly Resolution 2758” - October 27th, 2025
Dear Ambassador Fu Cong,
Excellencies, Colleagues,
Dear friends,
I thank the Chinese mission for the kind invitation to participate in today’s commemoration. As you know, China is a strategic partner of Brazil both bilaterally and globally.
China has been our largest trade partner for over a decade and a half. And both countries have committed themselves to the continued deepening of international cooperation through multilateral organizations and plurilateral groupings, such as the G20, BRICS and the Group of Friends for Peace. We appreciate our partnership and commit to continuing enhancing it.
It is always fitting to celebrate a territory’s liberation from foreign invasion and oppression. This happened to Taiwan and a series of other countries and territories at the end of World War II, 80 years ago. We join in this celebration as we hold the principle of territorial integrity of states as being a cardinal one, well enshrined in our Charter.
As we commemorate the adoption of General Assembly Resolution 2578, Brazil takes this opportunity to reiterate its firm support to the One China Principle, the government of the People’s Republic of China being the sole legitimate government of the whole of China, and Taiwan being an inseparable part of the Chinese territory. Whilst reaffirming the principle of territorial integrity of states, Brazil supports the Chinese government’s efforts towards a peaceful process of national reunification. The Chinese government can continue counting on our support on this matter.
I thank you
