Discurso do Representante Permanente, Embaixador Sérgio França Danese, na 11.ª Sessão Especial de Emergência da Assembleia Geral das Nações Unidas sobre a Ucrânia - 24 de fevereiro de 2025 (texto em inglês)
Statement by the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations, Ambassador Sérgio França Danese, at the
11th UNGA Emergency Special Session on Ukraine
February 24th, 2025
Mr. President,
Ever since the beginning of the conflict, Brazil has defended the need for de-escalation of hostilities in Ukraine and the importance of finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict, through dialogue and diplomacy.
At this juncture, we need to put in motion concrete efforts to this end. It is high time we move beyond restating well-known positions, and actually work towards dialogue and building bridges. Divisiveness leads us nowhere and there is no more time to spare. It is time to put an end to this war, which has cost so many lives and caused indescribable destruction.
Moving forward, it is crucial that all relevant parties be present at the negotiating table. The actors involved need to find a middle ground that is acceptable to all sides. This is the only way we can attain a comprehensive, lasting and sustainable peace.
This conflict has had global repercussions, affecting peace and security in other regions of the world. For this reason, we believe that developing countries have relevant contributions to offer. Dealing with such situations as we have always done has shown no results. It is time to listen to the voice of the Global South.
We have been working with our partners in the Group of Friends for Peace to identify ways to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the conflict. Bringing both parties to the table, addressing the root causes of the conflict and providing security guarantees to both Russia and Ukraine is the way forward.
We will continue to promote peace, security and prosperity for Europe and the entire international community. It is our belief that the peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine may represent an important step towards reinvigorating multilateralism and strengthening a multipolar order that benefits all.
I thank you.
