VITEM XI - Family Reunion
VITEM XI is a temporary visa based on family ties with a Brazilian national or a foreign national who is, at the time of visa application, a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil.
According to Law No. 13,445/2017, the applicant (Chamado) may be sponsored (Chamante) by any of the following:
(i) Brazilian spouses or stable partners (União Estável);
(ii) children, grandchildren, parents or grandparents who are Brazilian nationals or who are beneficiaries of a residence permit in Brazil;
(iii) Brazilian nationals or beneficiaries of a residence permit in Brazil who have legally adopted the applicant, provided that the applicant is: (a) under 18 years of age; (b) under 24 years of age if still a student; or (c) of any age, in case of economic dependency to the sponsor;
(iv) Brazilian nationals or beneficiaries of a residence permit in Brazil who are siblings of the applicant, provided that the applicant is: (a) under 18 years of age; (b) under 24 years of age if still a student; or (c) of any age, in case of economic dependency to the sponsor; or
(v) Brazilian nationals who are under the applicant’s guardianship (tutela, curatela, guarda).
⚠️ VITEM XI cannot be granted in case the sponsor’s residency in Brazil has been based on the issuance of the same type of visa.
⚠️ VITEM XI cannot be granted to applicants sponsored by spouses or stable partners whose marriages or stable unions, as the case may be, were celebrated by means of powers of attorney (i.e., both parties were not present before competent authorities).
