Applications by post
When applying for a passport for a minor by post, the authorization form for issuing a passport for a minor must be sent with the signatures of the Brazilian parents notarized (面前) by a Japanese Notary Public (公証役場), with the parents' original passports sent. Click here for a list of notaries public by prefecture (in Japanese). The signature on the authorization form must be identical to that on the passport.
⚠️ Japanese parents must send their original passport OR another Japanese document with a photo and the necessary information to identify the person concerned, along with a selfie of them holding the document.
⚠️ Signatures by similarity are not accepted.
⚠️ The Consulate cannot be held responsible for lost documents, and it is the responsibility of applicants to ensure that they are sent by the appropriate means (registered letter/takyubin).
Observations
- Minors do not need to go to the Consulate General. The lack of fingerprinting does not prevent the granting of passports with maximum validity.
⚠️ If it is impossible to prove the identity of the minor, their presence may be requested. - Parents have the option of inscribing the Travel Authorization in the passport itself so that it doesn't have to be requested every time the minor travels.
⚠️ To change or revoke the travel authorization entered in the passport, the passport with the travel authorization must be cancelled, and a new passport for the minor will be issued with the related costs.
