Wedding held at the Consulate
What it is
Marriage performed directly at the consular office. The service can be requested by Brazilians over the age of 16 and, to do so, one of the couple must be resident in the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Brazil in Tokyo. To celebrate the marriage, two witnesses must be present, who must be of legal age, attest to knowing the bride and groom and confirm their domicile and marital status, as well as the absence of any impediment preventing them from marrying.
The Consular Marriage Certificate must be transcribed in Brazil as soon as possible.
⚠️ For those under 18, the consent of both parents or guardians is required.
How to apply
With the necessary documents in hand, book the service through the e-Consular system. Check out the system tutorial here. Once the appointment has been made, you will need to go in person to the Consulate and present the original documents.

Important notes
Both spouses must go to the consulate to present their documents and ask the consular authority to set a date and time for the ceremony.
⚠️ Witnesses do not need to be present on the day of the application, but they must be present on the day of the ceremony.
According to the Brazilian Civil Code, the ceremony can only take place within a minimum of 15 days and a maximum of 90 days from the date the documents are submitted.
Property regime
The purpose of the property regime is to regulate assets before and after the marriage. If the couple are Brazilian (not dual nationals) and wish to stipulate a property regime other than partial communion of assets, they must request the drawing up of a Public Deed of Antenuptial Pact. Before signing the prenuptial agreement, it is advisable to first find out about the property regimes in force in Brazil.
Name change
Either of the couple, if they wish, can add the other's surname to theirs, or, if they wish, keep their maiden name.
Consular fee
The service is free of charge.
