Visitor Visa
ATTENTION!
Applicants must refrain from sending documents by email, unless requested to do so by the Consulate.
VISA APPLICATIONS REQUIRE PRIOR BOOKING VIA E-CONSULAR. THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTATION MAY BE PRESENTED DIRECTLY AT THE CONSULATE GENERAL, BETWEEN 9:00 AM AND 11:00 AM, FROM MONDAY TO FRIDAY, EXCEPT HOLIDAYS.
VISITOR VISA (VIVIS)
The visa holder must not engage in remunerated work in Brazil and the activities must not exceed 90 days.
This type of visa is usually granted for the following activities:
- Tourism;
- Cultural, educational or recreational activities;
- Family visits;
- Participation in conferences, workshops, congresses or reunions;
- Performing voluntary work;
- Research, learning or academic extension activities;
- Participation in meetings, fairs and business events, as well as prospecting business opportunities;
- Media/film coverage;
- As an auditor or consultant;
- To join aircraft or vessel as part of its crew; and
- Travelers transiting through Brazilian airports to other countries, whenever the onward flight is
booked under a separate ticket and/or different code.
Length of stay in Brazil
First granted period: up to 90 days.
Extensions (in Brazil only): up to a further 90 days, adding up to a maximum of 180 days in any twelve-month period.
Those willing to extend their stay should apply for extension at the Brazilian Federal Police.

* For purposes other than tourism, such as conferences, seminars or taking part in a tournament, the following documents must be submitted in addition
a) If you are going to attend a conference as a spectator, or an open tournament as an amateur athlete or artist, in addition to all of the above mentioned documents, you must submit:
- Proof of registration: hard copy of the confirmation that you have signed up to attend the event.
b) If you have been invited to attend a conference as a speaker, or a competition as a professional athlete/artist, and you are not going to receive any proceeds from a Brazilian source, in addition to all of the above mentioned documents, you must submit a signed invitation letter issued by the event’s organizer. This document must provide detailed information about the event, including:
- Name of the institution organizing the event;
- Name(s) of the person(s) in charge of the event organization in Brazil, including phone number(s), position(s) and e-mail(s), in case further information is deemed necessary;
- Type/description of event;
- Dates and venue where the event will take place;
- Terms of your participation in the event.
c) If you are going to attend a business meeting, you must submit a signed invitation letter issued by the host company. This document must provide detailed information, including:
- Information about the host company: name, CNPJ, business line, phone number, e-mail, website;
- Information about the signing agent: name, CPF, position, phone number, e-mail;
- Business relationship between the host company and the invited (importer, subsidiary etc.);
- Information about the invited agent: name, passport number, position, phone number, e-mail;
- Place and date the meeting shall occur;
- How the trip is being sponsored;
- Signature: if physical, the original document, notarized, must be handed in at the Consulate.
You may employ the platform for digital signatures from the Brazilian Federal Government. In this case, the pdf original version must be sent to our email address visa.mumbai@itamaraty.gov.br, for verification of authenticity.
Note: invitation letters may be in English or Portuguese.
TRANSIT VISA (VIVIS)
General rules
- Citizens of countries with no visa exemption agreements with Brazil, in possession of separate tickets, stopping over in Brazil on their way to a final destination (having to leave the transit zone), must hold a transit visa.
- Visas remain unnecessary for nationals of countries with visa exemption agreements, regardless of the type of ticket.
- If you do not qualify for visa exemption, please verify your ticket.
- If you have one single ticket, under a single booking reference, stating both the origin and the final destination, regardless of multiple stopovers or multiple carriers, and as long as you remain in the transit zone, you do not require a transit visa.
- If you have separate tickets for inbound and outbound flights, a transit visa is required.
Length of stay in Brazil
Valid for up to 90 days, not extendable, applicable for multiple entries.

Attention: holding a visa from any other country does not exempt a visa to Brazil.
