Inadmission or Denial of Entry to Turkey
Turkey, like all nations, has the sovereign right to admit or deny entry to foreign travelers, even if they have met the country’s entry requirements.
Consulates—whether Brazilian or from other countries—cannot intervene with local authorities to advocate on behalf of their nationals who are prevented from entering Turkey. It is not the consulate's role to interfere in the decisions or procedures of the Turkish migration authorities. Instead, the consulate ensures that inadmissible Brazilian citizens receive treatment that is dignified and equal to that given to citizens of other nationalities.
As a general rule, inadmissibility is not a matter to be addressed via the consular emergency line. The consular emergency line should be used only in exceptional situations related to inadmission, such as when travelers are hospitalized or when unaccompanied minors are denied entry.
Travelers can contact the consular assistance sector for further clarification on the subject after returning to Brazil or their country of residence by emailing consular.istambul@itamaraty.gov.br.
Once denied entry, the traveler is taken to the airport’s holding rooms, where they must remain until they are re-boarded. The waiting period typically ranges from six to 72 hours, depending on when a seat becomes available on a return flight to the airport of origin.
Inadmission is a standard administrative procedure and is not equivalent to deportation or imprisonment of the passenger.
