Visit Visa (VIVIS)
General rules
- Visitor Visas (VIVIS) are aimed at those travelling to Brazil for maximum stays of up to 90 days, without the intention to establish residence, for the purposes of:
- tourism and transit
- academic research
- adoption
- artistic or sports activities
- attending conferences, seminars or meetings
- auditing and consultancy
- business
- health treatments
- journalistic coverage
- study
- volunteer work
VIVIS holders are strictly forbidden to practise any paid work in Brazil, but are allowed to receive payments from the government, a Brazilian employer, or a private entity for the purposes of daily allowances, artistic paychecks, compensation, or travel expenses, as well as to receive cash prizes in sports, artistic or cultural competitions.

Additional requirements for minors
In addition to the visa application requirements stated above, applicants who are younger than 18 years of age at the time of application must present the following:
- Original birth certificate;
- Authorization for Issuance of Brazilian Visa for a Minor, signed by both parents. Signatures must be notarized by a notary from our jurisdiction;
- If one parent has sole custody of applicant, a notarized copy of the court order awarding sole custody and exclusive parental rights must be presented.
- If one parent is deceased, a death certificate must be presented.
- For children of Brazilian parent(s): Declaração de Não-Cidadania declaring that the applicant is not a Brazilian citizen, signed by Brazilian parent(s). The signature must be notarized by a notary public of our jurisdiction;
- Copy of passports or other form of photo ID for both parents.
- The name on the parent’s photo ID must match parent’s name on the child’s birth certificate. If said parent has changed his or her name since the issuance of the birth certificate, the parent must present documentation showing proof of the name change (e.g. marriage certificate or court order).

How to submit your visa
Visas can be submitted:
- In person at the consulate
- Deliver the documentation listed above in a closed envelope at the reception containing applicant’s contact information (address, phone number, and email) in case contact is necessary. No third parties are allowed to deliver or pick up visas on applicant's behalf.
- Delivery and pick up are Monday through Friday, from 1pm to 3pm, except holidays.
- No appointments are necessary for visas.
- The applicant will be contacted to pick up his/her documentation at the consulate.
- By mail
Required documentation should be sent to the following address, using a USPS Priority or Priority Express envelope:

Along with the required documentation for the visa, applicants must include an additional self-addressed, pre-paid return envelope (Priority or Priority Express flat-rate) from the U.S. Postal Service. This envelope will be used to return the visa to the applicant, and may be folded in half to fit inside the original sending envelope.
Return envelopes with addresses outside the United States will not be accepted.
The Consulate does not assume responsibility for any delay or loss by the postal service.
Processing time
Up to 10 days after the documentation is received by the consulate.
