Compromisso de Belém pelos Combustíveis Sustentáveis - Belém 4X

O “Compromisso de Belém pelos Combustíveis Sustentáveis”, ou “Belém 4x”, visa a conferir apoio político e fomentar a cooperação internacional para, no mínimo, quadruplicar o uso de combustíveis sustentáveis até 2035, por meio da implementação de políticas existentes ou anunciadas. O hidrogênio e seus derivados, os biogases, os biocombustíveis e os combustíveis sintéticos precisam ser produzidos em escala e a preços competitivos, de modo a complementar a eletrificação e substituir combustíveis de origem fóssil nos setores de transporte e indústria. A Agência Internacional de Energia (AIE) dispôs-se a assumir o papel de monitorar anualmente o progresso do compromisso, que foi baseado em análise da AIE.

 Até o momento, o "Belém 4X" foi endossado por 19 países: Armênia, Belarus, Brasil, Canadá, Chile, Guatemala, Guiné, Índia, Itália, Japão, Maldivas, México, Moçambique, Myanmar, Países Baixos, Panamá, República Popular Democrática da Coreia (RPDC), Sudão e Zâmbia. A variedade e a ampla distribuição geográfica do grupo daqueles que já se associaram demonstram a relevância dos combustíveis sustentáveis para a transição energética e o combate à mudança do clima nas mais diversas partes do planeta.

 A iniciativa, co-patrocinada por Brasil, Itália e Japão, permanecerá aberta a novas adesões.

 The "Belém 4x Pledge on Sustainable Fuels," or "Belém 4x," aims to provide political support and promote international cooperation to increase at least fourfold the use of sustainable fuels by 2035, through the implementation of existing or announced policies. Hydrogen and its derivatives, biogases, biofuels, and e-fuels must be produced at scale and at competitive prices in order to complement electrification and replace fossil-based fuels in the transportation and industrial sectors. The International Energy Agency (IEA) is expected to track the progress of this pledge and report annually, building on IEA analysis underpinning the pledge.

 To date, the pledge has been endorsed by the 19 countries: Armenia, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Guatemala, Guinea, India, Italy, Japan, Maldives, Mexico, Mozambique, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Panama, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Sudan, and Zambia. The variety and wide geographical distribution of the group of those who have already joined show the relevance of sustainable fuels for the energy transition and the fight against climate change all over the world.

 The initiative, co-sponsored by Brazil, Italy, and Japan, will remain open to new signatories.
