VITEM IV – Study
A - VITEM IV - Study (“Student Visa”) may be granted in connection with the pursue of any of the following activities in Brazil: (i) regular academic training; (ii) internship; (iii) student exchange program; and (iv) researcher exchange program.
Regular academic training encompasses elementary, middle and high school, as well as undergraduate, graduate, technical or language courses, provided they are offered by a school or University duly enrolled before the National Register of Legal Entities (CNPJ).
Internship encompasses academic studies within a work environment, aiming at the professional training of undergraduate or graduate students.
Exchange programs involve the international training, focusing on the continuous academic betterment, based on the exchange of cultural and technical content within an academic environment.
⚠️ Student Visas, as a general rule, shall not be granted in connection with programs, courses and/or initiatives which do not achieve a minimum workload of fifteen (15) hours a week.
⚠️ In case the program, course and/or initiative does not exceed ninety (90) days, a visitor visa (VIVIS) may be granted in lieu of a Student Visa.
Any visit under a Student Visa may take place under any of the following activities:

A - General Requirements:

Online visa application form (RER – Recibo de Entrega de Requerimento), printed out and signed by the applicant. |

Police clearance issued within the last 3 months; |

Proof of ability to cover expenses during the intended stay in Brazil. One of the following documents may be presented:
The document must be dated within one month from the date of application and must show an average balance of at least USD 1,000.00 for each month of intended stay in Brazil. Financial funds may be totally or partially held by applicant and/or by applicant’s parent(s) and/or guardian(s) in any proportion. Letters issued by relevant school, University or institution, evidencing the terms of the scholarship, grant or fellowship eventually awarded to applicant shall be taken into consideration. |

* Copy of Birth Certificate, coupled with a translation thereof into English, signed by the translator (applicant may not be the translator); |

* Copy of the Japan residence card (Zairyu Card); |

REMARKS:
* The original document must be submitted together with a copy. The original document shall be returned to the applicant.
B - Additional documents, according to the purpose of travel, as per items I to VI, above:
⚠️ Any letter or statement issued by a Brazilian school, University or similar institution, evidencing that a place/position is available to the applicant, must have its signature(s) notarized by a Notary Public in Brazil.
Letters and statements issued by Public Universities or Federal Institutions need NOT go through such procedure.

⚠️ Further documentation may be required, as deemed necessary on a case-by-case basis.
Elementary, Middle and High School, as well as Other Courses (technical and languages) (items I and VI):
In addition to documents under “1” to “8”, above, letter, statement or other proof of enrollment or acceptance at the course intended, evidencing the course’s name, duration, period and weekly hours (workload).
Undergraduate Studies (item II):
In addition to documents under “1” to “8”, above: (a) certificate of High School or equivalent Degree, (duly apostilled or consularized, if applicable); (b) proof of acceptance for undergraduate studies based on an examination process organized by a Brazilian college, University or similar institution, duly recognized by The Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC); (c) copy of the public announcement referring to the examination process, which must contain the passing grades and school subjects being evaluated, as well as a certificate confirming that the applicant has been approved under relevant examination process by obtaining said passing grades on all school subjects; and (d) proof of enrollment or statement issued by relevant Brazilian college, University or similar institution, evidencing that the place/position is available to the applicant.
Graduate Studies (item III):
In addition to documents under “1” to “8”, above: (a) certificate of college or University Degree, (duly apostilled or consularized, if applicable); and (b) proof of enrollment for graduate studies with a Brazilian college, University or similar institution, duly recognized by The Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC). For graduate studies that are deemed as “stricto sensu” (i.e., Masters or PhD), an acceptance letter or equivalent document issued by relevant Brazilian college, University or similar institution shall suffice.
Student Exchange Programs and Researcher Exchange Programs (items IV and V):
In addition to documents under “1” to “8”, above: (a) proof of enrollment or certificate evidencing the status as an undergraduate or graduate student with a foreign college, University or similar institution; and (b) proof of enrollment or, as the case may be, proof of participation in a research project, with a Brazilian college, University or similar institution, duly recognized by The Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC).
C - For those under 18 years old
All of the above-captioned documents, as applicable, as well as the following ones:
