Ash Smith joined the UK Government Digital Service in early 2020, where he is the Deputy Director responsible for driving the use across government of joined-up digital identity solutions - including GOV.UK Verify and its successor - that make it easier for people to access services online. Ash has extensive Civil Service experience, having previously enjoyed a variety of strategy, policy and technology roles in the fields of defence and security, international cooperation and EU exit.
