Radiobiology Unit
The Radiobiology Unit has equipment that enables work in the areas of biochemistry, microbiology and parasitology. It has ample infrastructure for molecular biology work, including four separate rooms for reagent preparation, DNA extraction, PCR reaction and analysis of amplified products, respectively. In this last room, electrophoresis and hybridization are performed with DNA probes labeled with 32P.
The main equipment available for molecular biology are: refrigerated microcentrifuge, low-speed centrifuge, fume hood, aseptic chamber, ultraviolet oven, stirrers, dry heating block, NanoVue System for DNA dosage, thermocyclers, StepOnePlus system for real-time PCR, DNA electrophoresis systems, UV transilluminator, transfer apparatus for Dot Blot and Southern blot, BioDot image acquisition and processing system, hybridization ovens, Bio-Imaging Analyzer, laminar flow, -70oC freezer, UV-Vis spectrophotometer and microplate reader.
