Mass Spectrometry Laboratory
The Mass Spectrometry Laboratory - LEM, date of installation of the Mass Spectrometer in June 2008 in the Reactor and Analytical Techniques Service. This argon plasma mass spectrometer, ICP-MS, model ELAN DRC-e, serial number AH 12150703, manufactured in 2006, was acquired by CDTN/CNEN with a budget from the Union on 12/26/2006, through direct import from the United States.

Analyses of various chemical elements (including thorium and uranium and rare earth elements) have been and are being carried out at the ICP-MS Laboratory in various types of samples (river water, groundwater, minerals, wastewater, sediments, soils, plants, medicines, powdered milk, etc.) for master's dissertations and doctoral theses, mainly from the CDTN Postgraduate Program.
To expand the scope of the technique, the accessory (LASER ablation) is available at the LEM, which will be used for the direct analysis of solid samples, and is still in the optimization phase. LASER ablation in an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA-ICP-MS) will expand the horizons for understanding the distribution of chemical elements in solid matrices (geological, biological, environmental, etc.), thereby generating numerous works that can be used by professors and students of the CDTN Postgraduate Program in their master's dissertations and doctoral theses;
The ICP-MS laboratory, intended for trace and ultra-trace analysis, is operational because it has the following equipment/accessories:
Millipore ELIX 20 water purification system and accessories;
MILLI-Q Element system for water production with removal of contaminants at ppt level;
Anton Paar Multiwave 3000 microwave sample preparation system;
Milestone SRl SubBoiling-DuoPUR acid distiller, 84602, for acid purification;
Adequacy of clean laboratory for installation of LA-ICP-MS.
