Nanoscopy Laboratory
The Nanoscopy Laboratory (LabNano) aims to study materials at the nanometric scale using scanning probe microscopy (SPM) techniques. LabNano has two SPM microscopes, one operated in an open atmosphere (NTEGRA Microscope) and the other operated in ultra-high vacuum conditions (STM-UHV). The NTEGRA microscope has resources for sample characterization by atomic and magnetic force microscopy (AFM and MFM), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and sample preparation by nanolithography. The STM-UHV microscope is the result of a construction project at LabNano itself. This system consists of two interconnected vacuum chambers (sample preparation chamber and STM microscope) and its main objective is the in-situ investigation of morphological, electronic and magnetic properties of materials with reduced dimensionality such as quantum dots, nanowires, islands and ultrathin films.
