Laboratory of Radiation Protection Applied to Mammography
The Laboratory of Radiation Protection Applied to Mammography - LARAM was inaugurated in 2009, as part of the celebrations of the 57th anniversary of the Center for the Development of Nuclear Technology - CDTN, thus complementing a set of radioprotection and radiodiagnostic metrology laboratories to strengthen the participation of the CDTN in the National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT) in Radiation Metrology in Medicine. LARAM is the result of a partnership between the CDTN and the State Department of Health of Minas Gerais (SES/MG) in the Research Program for the SUS.
LARAM has served as a technical and scientific base for training and support to the Health Surveillance in the Quality and Radiation Protection Program in Mammography Services of the Government of the State of Minas Gerais. Digital mammographic imaging systems and high-performance mammography available at LARAM are used for research, system development and training of professionals aiming at protecting patients by improving the quality of mammographic exams.
LARAM's mission is to contribute to cancer detection by improving image quality and radiological protection of patients in Mammography Services.
