INNOVATION WEEK 2025 LA-BORA!gov hosts the first meeting of the laboratory’s Free-LAs! Community
Organized by LA-BORA!gov, the Innovative Management Laboratory of the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI), the Free-LA! project gives public servants the opportunity to work on specific innovation projects according to their expertise and interests. The first meeting of the LA-BORA!gov Free-LAs! Community took place on Wednesday, October 1, during Innovation Week 2025, an event hosted by the National School of Public Administration (Enap).
In addition to presenting the project, the activity aimed to foster integration and strengthen the connections that build a sense of community among Free-LAs!. The event concluded with a discussion on the opportunities and challenges of this new work model.
Currently, other institutions also have their own Free-LAs! communities. Joseane Correia, a member of LA-BORA!gov’s flexible team, highlighted the importance of strengthening these communities:
“They should exist to meet the team’s needs, build interaction, provide support, and foster a sense of belonging and collaboration.”
LA-BORA!gov coordinator Maria Raquel Stacciarini spoke about the community’s success on the InovaGov platform, where members connect and share experiences:
“The LA-BORA!gov collaborator database has grown and now has over 1,900 participants. The community on InovaGov creates a space for connection, knowledge exchange, and sharing diverse experiences among people.”
How it works
Public servants interested in joining the LA-BORA!gov Free-LAs! team must complete a registration form on the laboratory’s website. From there, they may be invited to work on a project or service according to their skills and interests.
The initiative aligns with global trends toward flexible, on-demand, and diversified work, contrasting with rigid structures tied to specific areas of responsibility. It also matches public administration needs with the interests and competencies of participating staff.
Those who participate as Free-LAs! enhance their work experience, build networks, share their learnings within their home organizations, and bring fresh ideas into public service. This contributes to higher engagement, motivation, and productivity.
