General information
There is no legal provision for the Brazilian government to pay for the transportation of ashes or remains of Brazilian citizens.
Brazilian citizens who have died abroad may have their death registered with the Embassy upon a statement from a family member, preferably a Brazilian citizen.
If it's not possible for a family member to make the statement, an authorized representative may be appointed with written authorization and a notarized signature from the family member.
The consular death certificate must subsequently be transcribed in Brazil, at the 1st Civil Registry Office of the deceased's domicile or of the Federal District.
