Palestra no ON aborda as correlações de intensidade no contexto da óptica quântica e do imageamento astrofísico

A Coordenação de Astronomia e Astrofísica (COAST) do Observatório Nacional (ON/MCTI) terá em 30 de abril, quinta-feira, mais uma palestra do ciclo 2026 dos seus seminários semanais.

A palestra será ministrada pelo Dr. Robin Kaiser, da Université Côte d'Azur. O seminário terá como tema “Intensity correlations: imaging and quantum optics in astrophysics” e será realizado presencialmente no Auditório Yeda Ferraz, no ON, às 15h. O coffee break será às 14h30.

Resumo: In this talk, I will give an introduction to intensity correlations for astrophysical imaging, as pioneered by Hanbury Brown and Twiss. The availability of modern technologies in photon detection (developed for quantum technologies) and the aim of ultrahigh angular resolution in astrophysics (beyond VLTI capabilities) triggered a revival of intensity correlations for astrophysics. I will give an overview of the recent results on intensity correlations for astrophysical imaging and present the ongoing effort by our group towards resolving a white dwarf. On the quantum optics aspects, I will present the application of intensity correlations for quantum signatures of stimulated emission in astrophysics.
