Palestra no Observatório Nacional aborda os avanços e oportunidades do levantamento astronômico J-PAS

A Coordenação de Astronomia e Astrofísica (COAST) do Observatório Nacional (ON/MCTI) terá na próxima quinta-feira, 27 de agosto, mais uma palestra do ciclo 2026 dos seus seminários semanais.

A palestra será ministrada pelo Dr. Renato Dupke, pesquisador do ON. O seminário terá como tema “The Javalambre-Physics of the Accelerating Universe Astrophysical Survey (J-PAS): Data Releases, the Legacy Open Call, and Opportunities for the Observatório Nacional” e será realizado presencialmente no Auditório Yeda Ferraz, no ON, às 15h. Título: The Javalambre-Physics of the Accelerating Universe Astrophysical Survey (J-PAS): Data Releases, the Legacy Open Call, and Opportunities for the Observatório Nacional

Resumo: The Javalambre-Physics of the Accelerating Universe Astrophysical Survey (J-PAS) is a narrow-band, wide-field, cosmologically motivated survey carried out from the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory in Spain with a purpose-built, dedicated 2.5 m telescope and a ~3.5 sq. deg. camera of 1.2 Gpix, JPCam. J-PAS plans to observe more than 8,000 sq. deg. of the Northern Sky and to measure sigma_z ~ 0.003(1+z) photometric redshifts for up to several tens of millions of LRG and ELG galaxies plus several million QSOs, sampling up to z ~ 1 and reaching the regime of a Stage-IV radial BAO experiment. Its uniqueness is a contiguous system of 54 narrow-band filters spaced 100 Å apart (plus two medium bands in the near-UV and near-IR) over a multi-degree field of view. This makes J-PAS a uniquely powerful "photo-z machine" with immense legacy value across many areas of astrophysics. ON is a major founding institution of the collaboration and has played a central role in its scientific and technical development. In this talk I will review the current status of the survey and of its data releases: the Early Public Data Release, already available to the community, and the Extended Early Data Release, currently in use within the collaboration and scheduled for public release by the end of the year. I will also present the Legacy Open Call program, an open opportunity for the community to propose and lead science with J-PAS data, and I will discuss concrete ways in which researchers and students at the ON can engage with the survey, access the data, and take part in its scientific exploitation in the coming years.
