Law No. 14.993, of October 8, 2024.
Law No. 14.993, of October 8, 2024, known as the Future Fuel Law, is a milestone in Brazil’s energy transition. It establishes strategic programs aimed at decarbonizing the transport sector: the National Sustainable Aviation Fuel Program (ProBioQAV), the National Renewable Diesel Program (PNDV), and the National Decarbonization Program for Natural Gas Producers and Importers and for the Promotion of Biomethane.
The law modifies the maximum blending limits of ethanol in gasoline and biodiesel in diesel, expanding the use of biofuels in the national energy matrix. It also advances the regulation and oversight of Carbon Capture and Geological Storage activities, as well as the production and commercialization of synthetic fuels, fostering innovative technologies for a low-carbon economy.
Lastly, the legislation promotes the integration of established public policies, such as RenovaBio, the Mover Program, the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV), and Proconve, strengthening a national strategy for sustainable mobility, innovation, and emissions reduction.
