New Industry Brazil (NIB) is the industrial policy launched by the federal government in January 2024, with the aim of boosting the development of national industry by 2033. This policy led by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) was formulated in a complementary way and in partnership with New Brazil, aligning economic and financial strategies with the industrial sector, and generating combined strategies.
The program is expected to invest R$300 billion by 2026, including financing instruments, non-reimbursable resources and shareholdings, managed by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), the Financing Agency for Studies and Projects (Finep) and the Brazilian Company for Industrial Research and Innovation (Embrapii).
NIB is structured around six main missions:
Sustainable and digital agroindustrial chains: Aims to increase the share of agroindustry in agricultural GDP to 50%, achieve 70% mechanization in family farming and ensure that at least 95% of the machinery and equipment used is manufactured domestically.
Strong economic and industrial health complex: Aims to supply 70% of national needs for the production of medicines, vaccines, medical equipment and devices, health-related materials and other health supplies and technologies.
Sustainable infrastructure, sanitation, housing and mobility: Aims to reduce commuting time by 20% and increase densification in the sustainable public transportation network by 25%.
Digital transformation of industry: Aims to digitalize 90% of Brazilian industries and triple the share of national production in the new technologies segment.
Bioeconomy, decarbonization and energy transition and security: Proposes to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 30% per value added of industry's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), increase the share of biofuels in the transportation energy matrix by 50%, and increase the industry’s technological and sustainable use of biodiversity by 1% per year.
Strategic technologies for national sovereignty and defense: Aims to achieve 50% autonomy in the production of critical defense technologies.
