The Program for the Translation and Publication of Brazilian Author Abroad is a program of National Library Foundation that aims to publish Brazilian works abroad, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Brazilian National Library, through the Program for the Translation and Publication, has already distributed more than a thousand grants in the four continents of the world over 31 years, in the most distinct languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Romanian, Finnish, Russian, Macedonian, etc. Several authors have had their works published abroad, from the most contemporary to the most classical, such as Clarice Lispector, Machado de Assis, Jorge Amado and Mário de Andrade.
The Program works as follows: Foreign publishers submit their publication project to FBN, according to the Call for Proposals and the Regulations of the Translation Program. Subsequently, a committee performs the screening of the documents submitted. Another commission, in turn, selects the projects.
Projects must follow the prerogatives of the Program's permanent Regulations and its current Public Notice. The Regulation is the document that establishes the main guidelines, the documents to be submitted by the proponent publishing houses in the application process, the evaluation criteria used by the Evaluation Committee for the selection of translation scholarships, among other relevant information.
Every two years the Translation Program Announcements are published with the dates of the various meetings to be held during the period of its validity (receipt of applications, eligibility of documentation, evaluation of proposals by the Evaluation Committee and award of translation grants to selected projects).
