How to enter the Master
The Graduate Program in Biological Sciences (Entomology) at INPA offers 10 to 20 vacancies annually (depending on the availability of scholarships), with 1 to 2 vacancies for foreign candidates.
Candidates who graduated in Brazil must have a course diploma approved by MEC (Ministry of Education)
The candidate who has a graduation diploma from a foreign institution will not be required to revalidate the diploma in Brazil. However, the graduation diploma and school transcript must be legalized with the Brazilian diplomatic representation in the country of origin. Diplomas in Spanish and English can only be presented in the original. Diploma in another language must be presented with a sworn translation in Portuguese.
If there are no eligible or accepted foreign candidates registered, the number of vacancies for Brazilian candidates will increase proportionally to the maximum number of vacancies, respecting the minimum marks required in the selection process.
Form of entry
The only way to enter is through an annual selection exam. Brazilian and foreign candidates who are not part of the PEC/PG (Postgraduate Student Agreement Program) will test specific knowledge in Portuguese and proficiency in English. Foreigners, if selected, must present, until six months a certificate of proficiency in Portuguese for foreigners (CELPE-Bras).
PEC/PG candidates (click here) are evaluated directly by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). If approved, they will subsequently carry out proof of sufficiency in English according to the Specific Regulation of PPG Entomologia.
It is critical to note that application details and selection procedures may change from year to year and are detailed in the annual selection notice.
The registration process is done via e-mail by sending a registration form (which is available with the selection notice) and proof of payment of the registration fee. The amount of the application fee and any future additional documents for the application are established in the annual notice of the selection process.
The selection exam is offered in several Brazilian cities, as long as it is requested by interested parties and is usually held in early November. Each annual selection notice includes a complete list of cities where the exam will be held.
The selection is made by a Selection Committee appointed by the Program Council and is made up of five (5) professors from the Program or researchers appointed by the Council. The selection process consists of three phases: 1) proof of specific knowledge; 2) proficiency in English; 3) analysis of the Lattes Curriculum (CL - create yours here).
Those who reach a score equal to or greater than 7.0 (seven) in the specific test are considered approved.
The CL analysis is classificatory. Only those components of the curriculum for which proofs are submitted are considered. The evaluation criteria of the curricular items will be listed in the Curriculum Score Table in annexes in the announcement. In addition, the academic record and the letter of application are evaluated. This stage will be carried out by the selection committee without the presence of the candidates. Successful candidates will be ranked in descending order based on the weighting of the grades obtained in the Specific Knowledge Test and Curriculum Analysis. The candidate who has the highest score in the CL will get a grade of 10 (ten) and the others will have grades proportional to this.
In the event of a tie between candidates, the CV will be used as a “tie-breaker” for the final classification.
The recommended study topic for the specific knowledge test is in general entomology.

Results
The results of the master's selection exam are usually released in mid-December, and candidates approved with a vacancy have a deadline, usually until the beginning of January, to send the necessary documentation to confirm the vacancy.
Candidates approved in the selection exam, but not with enough marks to obtain a vacancy in the first instance, will form a waiting list, from which they may be called in case the candidates with a vacancy give up or are disqualified.
The documents usually requested for confirmation of the vacancy are:

Diploma or certificate of completion of higher education (copy);
- Complete undergraduate transcript (copy);
- Identification documents;
- 3x4 photos (two);
- Declaration of availability of time to study the master's degree;
- Declaration of acknowledgment of scholarship non-guarantee;
- Proof of all scoring items in the Lattes Curriculum.

Advisors
Only professors accredited in PPG-Entomology can act as advisors. Co-supervisors can be from outside INPA and do not need to be accredited, but they must have a doctoral degree. Each student can have up to two co-supervisors.
It is important to emphasize that to participate in the selection process it is not necessary to have a defined advisor or master's project. The advisor can be chosen up to May 30 of the year of enrollment in the course.
How to enter the PhD
Admission to the doctorate program at Graduate Program in Entomology is based on a four-year selection process. The candidate must have the acceptance of an INPA advisor, in addition to two letters of recommendation, a letter of presentation and the thesis project. This should be compatible with the research lines of the course and the advisor's area of knowledge, and should include introduction, justifications, objectives, sample design (if any), material and methods, expected results, schedule and funding sources.

Registration
The candidate who is approved for admission will be treated as a regular student after presenting the documentation at the PPG Entomologia secretariat. Only approved candidates who present the documentation required by PPG Entomologia will be enrolled.
Scholarships
Approval in the Program is not a guarantee of obtaining a scholarship. PPG Entomologia has federal (CNPq, CAPES) and state (FAPEAM) scholarships. The distribution of grants follows the criteria established by the Program committee.

INPA does not offer housing for students.
Displacement and vaccination
Travel costs for successful candidates to Manaus to enroll in PPG-Entomologia are not covered by INPA.
