Na quinta-feira, dia 15 de maio, a Coordenação de Astronomia e Astrofísica (COAST) do Observatório Nacional – unidade de pesquisa do Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovações (ON/MCTI) – realizará uma nova edição de seu seminário.
O evento acontecerá às 14h30 (horário de Brasília) no auditório Yeda Ferraz. O tema será “The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument Project: Understanding our History and Predicting our Future”. Para falar sobre o assunto, foi convidado o palestrante Dr. Arjun Dey, do NOIRLab.
Title: The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument Project: Understanding our History and Predicting our Future
Abstract: The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument on the Mayall 4-m telescope at Kitt Peak is revolutionizing not only our understanding of the universe, but also the way in which we enable discovery in astronomy. I will provide an overview of the project, its cartographic, astrophysical and cosmological goals, and the innovations behind its exceptional performance. DESI’s latest results hint at an evolving dark energy, and suggest that we were (yet again) wrong about the future. I will review where the current discoveries resulting from the DESI experiment are leading us, and possible future paths in this adventure.
