Seminário da Astronomia do ON fala sobre a formação de galáxias massivas

Na quinta-feira, dia 13 de novembro, a Coordenação de Astronomia e Astrofísica (COAST) do Observatório Nacional (ON/MCTI) – unidade de pesquisa do Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovações – realizará uma nova edição de seu seminário.

O evento começará às 15h (horário de Brasília) no Auditório da DISHO, após o coffee break, que será às 14h30. O tema será "Feedback and life-cycle of radio galaxies". Para falar sobre o assunto foi convidado o Dr. Pranav Kukret, do Zentrum für Astronomie der Universität Heidelberg, Astronomisches Rechen-Institut (Heidelberg, Alemanha).

Título: Feedback and life-cycle of radio galaxies.

Resumo: Feedback from active galactic nuclei (AGN) is crucial to quench star formation in massive galaxies. It can manifest as fast gas outflows, driven either by jets or radiation from the AGN. Recent simulations of AGN feedback have found that the impact on the host galaxy’s interstellar medium (ISM) changes during an AGN phase. Different stages of an AGN phase can be observed in radio-AGN that harbour bright jets. Their spectral and morphological properties can help identify young, evolved, and even multiple AGN phases in a single source. This is crucial to understand, since the duration of an active phase is significantly smaller than the lifetime of a galaxy. In this context, I will discuss the radio-AGN life-cycle and changing feedback from these sources in the nearby Universe. I will present results from studies where we found that jet-driven feedback from radio-AGN typically has strong impact only in the initial stages of jet growth, and is mostly confined to the central few kpc of a galaxy. I will conclude with some results from a spatially resolved study of jet-ISM interaction in a high redshift radio galaxy, where we observe the different manifestations of AGN feedback in a single system..

Sobre o Ciclo de Seminários de Astronomia e Astrofísica do ON

O Ciclo de Seminários de Astronomia e Astrofísica do ON é uma iniciativa da Coordenação de Astronomia e Astrofísica (COAST/ON) que ocorre semanalmente ao longo do ano acadêmico. Em 2025, os seminários estão sendo realizados às quintas-feiras, às 14h30, no auditório Yeda Ferraz, de forma presencial (com algumas exceções). A cada edição, um novo convidado é recebido para apresentar e discutir temas atuais e relevantes nas áreas de astronomia e astrofísica. O evento é aberto ao público e tem como objetivo promover a divulgação científica, estimular o intercâmbio de ideias entre pesquisadores e aproximar a comunidade acadêmica e o público geral das fronteiras do conhecimento astronômico.
