Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geofísica do ON inicia seu Ciclo de Seminários

Na quarta-feira, dia 23 de julho, o Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geofísica do Observatório Nacional (ON/MCTI) realizará uma nova edição de seu Ciclo de Seminários.

A apresentação terá início às 15h (horário de Brasília), no Auditório Yeda Ferraz, com transmissão ao vivo pelo YouTube. O palestrante convidado será o Dr. Maxwell Meju (Lulea University of Technology, Lulea Sweden), que abordará o tema: “Multiphysics imaging: Combining multimodal geophysical data to reduce uncertainty in decision-making at all spatial scales”.

Resumo: Geophysical field measurements are band-limited and typically contain noise hence they are best described as incomplete, inconsistent and insufficient data. Inverse mathematical modelling (i.e., inversion) of the field data from individual geophysical methods leads to non-unique models of subsurface property distributions, but integrating them quantitatively leads to a consistent multiphysical representation of the true Shared-Earth model. The most difficult challenge in applied geophysics is how to objectively integrate the various methods sensing different Earth (i.e., multiphysical) properties so as to reduce non-uniqueness and resolve conflicting models. This is the focus of my research and the basis of today’s 4-part seminar!
