Botanical Garden Museum hosts “Flor da Lua” event with a concert by Juliane Gamboa and multicultural programming
On Friday, October 31, the Botanical Garden Museum will hold a special edition of the “Flor da Lua” event, with free programming that combines music, ancestry, art, and science. Starting at 5 p.m., the Museum's gardens and spaces will be transformed into a place for gathering and celebrating Afro-Brazilian culture, featuring a concert by singer Juliane Gamboa, nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in 2025 in the Best New Artist category for her debut album “JAZZWOMAN.” The artist will perform at 7 p.m., with a repertoire that ranges from afrosambas to samba-jazz and improvisations, in a poetic encounter between creative freedom and the energy of the forests.
Before the main attraction, the audience will be able to enjoy a series of experiences that combine popular knowledge, cinema, performance, and astronomy. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., DJ Orkidia's sets will liven up the evening with rhythms from the black diaspora and Brazilian music. Throughout the afternoon, the international exhibition SOMMOS AMAZÔNIA, in partnership with the Guimarães Rosa Institute (IGR), will present short and medium-length films directed and produced by indigenous filmmakers and collectives, revealing narratives about ancestry, territory, and the future.
The program also invites the public to sensory and playful experiences: at 5 p.m., the workshop “Ancestral Knowledge: Between Herbs and Salts” teaches how to prepare aromatic sachets with herbs and coarse salt, inspired by the popular practice of foot baths. Then, at 5:30 p.m., storyteller Eliza Morenno presents “Sacizada,” reviving characters such as Saci and Curupira in stories that combine humor, imagination, and ecological awareness. Soon after, the artist leads a workshop on popular toys, in which children and families create the traditional barandão with simple and reused materials.
To close the evening, the public will be able to observe the sky with telescopes from the Rio Planetarium, exploring stars and planets under the guidance of astronomers. And, across the entire facade of the Museum, projections by artist Caetano Britto transform the architecture into a living canvas, with images inspired by nature and the diversity of Brazilian flora.
