In which context are those actions included in order to promote a business environment in green technologies?
In the framework of the dialogue between the EUROCLIMA+ Program and Brazil, the Priority Action 9 “Building a national and regional strategy for the development and adoption of sustainable technologies” was approved, led by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) and executed by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
Prioritized Action 9 seeks to fill knowledge gaps on the use of patents as a mechanism for the diffusion of green technologies, mainly those that reduce climate impact. In particular, the project aims, on the one hand, to promote and make known INPI's Green Patents Program, with regards to its pioneering character, its results (for example, in terms of reducing the time taken for a final decision on patents for these technologies) and their lessons learned over the course of their implementation. On the other hand, the project also seeks to deepen the relations between Latin American Patent Offices, strengthen the exchange between peers in the region in the field of green technological development and the promotion of businesses involving green technologies between both European and Latin American continents.
Are you Interested in joining our initiative of matchmaking and business rounds in green technologies?
As part of this project, at the end of June, a virtual matchmaking action and multilateral Latin America – Europe business rounds in green Technologies will take place, with INPI as its main promoter, alongside with important sponsors for the action.
The main objective is to promote the meeting between suppliers and demanders of green technology for the generation of business (technology licensing, for example), or even for the implementation of partnerships and collaboration agreements for technological development with a view to generating IP titles. in co-ownership.
Do you want to participate in the “Dialogues on funding for matchmaking actions in green technologies”?
At the end of May, in a partnership with CGEE, INPI will carry out the “Dialogues on funding for matchmaking actions in green technologies”. The event aims to discuss the main funding mechanisms for research, development and commercial exploitation of these technologies. Registration is free and the link will be informed soon. Follow our page.
How the initiative is structured?
Under the supervision of INPI and ECLAC, specialized hired consultants will be responsible for identifying needs and technological solutions for the areas of sustainable agriculture (1), waste management (2), renewable energies (3) and additional renewable energies for the generation of green hydrogen (4).
The technologies or the identified technological development projects will be invited to showcases (presentations) and/or business roundtables where meetings will be organized between the demanded and offer of technologies parties, through virtual meetings that seek to bring together mutual interests.

What are Green Technologies?
Green Technology is a concept that seeks to define a sustainable production process, it means, applying best circular design techniques. It is about conducting the life cycle of a product in such a way as to cause the least possible impact on the environment.
And when we talk about the life cycle, we are referring to each stage: from the extraction of raw materials, passing through their development, manufacture, distribution, use to disposal. All of this considering the short, medium and long terms.
Green products are “environment friendly”, a term in english that defines a “friendly” product to the environment.
They have a production cycle that is less costly to the environment, using raw materials coming from more sustainable sources. Thus, they are the product of a chain of processes that, in general, use less energy and do not generate as much waste.
The green technology seeks to promote improvements in the production chain of a technological commodity, in order to have:
- Renewable resources;
- Energy efficiency;
- Concerns for the health and safety of workers involved in the entire supply chain;
- A defined process of reducing, reusing and recycling.
And what does green technology have to add to the business itself?
From this perspective, it is possible to think of sustainable technology as a way of using “cleaner” production processes. But it goes much further. It is a way of maintaining the preservation of nature and also the health of the professionals involved. Thus, it boosts operational performance while cutting costs, wastes and reducing the use of natural resources.
Although one day these objectives were ignored by many entrepreneurs due to the high costs involved, today the reality is different. Therefore, it is possible to see a clear movement coming from the industry as a whole towards the adoption of green technologies.
It is not a coincidence that according to a study by Allied Market Research, the green and sustainable technology global market was already worth around US$ 9 billion in 2019. According to forecasts by experts, this figure could reach almost US$ 50 billion in 2027.
