Brazil exports 4.8% more in July, reaching USD 198 billion for the year

Expressive increases recorded in trade with several markets, including United States, Mexico, Argentina, European Union, Japan

Month-over-month, Brazilian imports grew by 8.4% in value, closing July at USD 25.2 billion - Credit: China Daily/Reuters via Agência Brasil

Brazil recorded a 4.8% growth in values and 7.2% increase in volume in July of this year, compared to July 2024, according to trade balance data released this Wednesday, August 6, by the Foreign Trade Secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (Ministério do Desenvolvimento, Indústria, Comércio e Serviços/MDIC).

Last month, Brazil’s exports totaled USD 32.31 billion. From January through July, Brazilian exports reached a total of USD 198 billion, a 0.1% increase in value and a 2% rise in volume compared to the same period in 2024. The country’s total trade flow reached USD 359 billion during this period, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 37 billion. 

DESTINATIONS – Brazilian export volumes rose in July 2025 compared to July 2024 across several key markets. Shipments to the United States increased by 5%, while exports to Mexico grew 17.2%. The biggest jump was to Argentina, with a 42.4% rise in volume. Exports to the European Union were up 7.4%, and to Japan, 7.3%. All figures refer to export volumes.

PRODUCTS – Among the products with the strongest month-over-month growth in July were beef, crude petroleum oils, copper ores, and unroasted coffee. The manufacturing sector, which transforms raw materials into final or intermediate goods (such as pulp into paper), recorded the highest growth in export value, up 7.4%. It was followed by the extractive industry, which grew 3.6%, and agriculture and livestock, which saw a modest increase of 0.3%.

IMPORTS – In the month-over-month comparison, Brazilian imports grew by 8.4% in value, reaching USD 25.2 billion in July. The increase was driven primarily by capital goods (up 13.4%), intermediate goods (10.8%), and consumer goods (5.1%). Year-to-date, imports have totaled USD 161 billion—an increase of 8.3% in value and 9.7% in volume compared to the same period in 2024.
