On April 24, Brazil’s Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinho, met with the Deputy Director-General for Partnerships and External Relations of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Laura Thompson, and the Director of the ILO Office in Brazil, Vinicius Pinheiro. The meeting was held at the ministry's headquarters in Brasilia and focused on strengthening cooperation between Brazil and the organization.
The meeting addressed avenues for enhancing cooperation between the Brazilian government and the International Labour Organization (ILO) on social justice, social protection, and the promotion of dialogue among government authorities, workers, and employers.
Minister Luiz Marinho reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to promoting decent work, equal opportunities, and social inclusion. He also highlighted the Federal Government's interest in expanding technical partnerships with international organizations.
STRATEGIC ROLE – Laura Thompson underscored Brazil’s strategic role in advancing public policies that promote equal pay. She also referenced the launch of the third Salary Transparency Report, whose findings were welcomed by ILO representatives.
Meeting participants discussed the possibility of convening an event in Brazil to promote the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC) and encourage broader participation by South American countries in the initiative. Supported by the ILO, the event could serve as a significant regional platform for mobilizing efforts toward achieving gender pay equality.
The cooperation program between the Ministry of Labor and the ILO, which includes projects to strengthen social justice in the Global South, was also discussed.
