The new openings include not only traditional products such as meat and soy, but also fish, seeds, gelatin, eggs, pecan nuts, yerba mate, rice and açaí powder.

One of the Brazilian federal government's priorities is to expand international markets for Brazilian products. This week, the country celebrated a milestone in agriculture: in just over 20 months, Brazil has opened 200 new markets for Brazilian products - an unprecedented feat. The milestone was announced on Wednesday, September 25th.

The opening up of new markets proves the competitiveness and reliability of the Brazilian production sector, which is recognized in more than 200 countries for its sanitary quality. This expansion boosts exports, contributes to the positive balance of trade and generates foreign currency, jobs and income"
Carlos Fávaro, minister of Agriculture and Livestock

Since the beginning of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's third term in office, around 60 new destinations have been included, expanding the presence of agribusiness on all continents, through the joint work of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. [Ministério da Agricultura e Pecuária/Mapa] and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs [Ministério das Relações Exteriores/MRE].

Altogether, 122 new markets were opened this year alone, and historical records were set almost every month. Among the monthly figures, 26 new markets stand out in June (13 countries); 16 in July (9 countries); 15 in May (10 countries); 15 in August; 10 in March (7 countries); 7 in February (6 countries); 9 in January (5 countries); and 5 in April (3 countries). So far, 19 new markets have been opened this month across 10 destinations.

"The opening of new markets proves the competitiveness and reliability of the Brazilian productive sector, recognized in more than 200 countries for its sanitary quality. This expansion boosts exports, contributes to a positive trade balance, and generates foreign currency, jobs and income,” said the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Fávaro.

The Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, also celebrated the milestone. “Today, Brazil is a major player on the world stage: food, energy and climate security,” Alckmin highlighted.

Brazil expands market horizons for agricultural products

RECORD – The current number surpasses the sum of the markets opened during 2019 (35), 2020 (74) and 2021 (77), when, over 36 months, 186 new openings were achieved. This month's record is already close to the total achieved over the last four years of the previous administration, which recorded 239 market openings.

A GLOBAL PLAYER – The recent opening of embryos to Russia and of yerba mate to Angola and South Korea was essential in reaching this milestone. According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture's Trade and International Relations Secretariat, the achievement reinforces the government's strategy of strengthening foreign trade and diversifying exports, consolidating Brazil as one of the largest actors on the global stage.

DIVERSIFYING – The openings include not only traditional Brazilian products such as meat and soy, but also a wide range of agricultural products such as fish, seeds, gelatine and collagen, eggs, animal recycling products, pecans, yerba mate, rice, açaí powder, green coffee, embryos and semen.
