The endangered flora of the Pampa is the theme of a mini-documentary that chronicles the CNCFlora expedition

The Pampa is one of Brazil’s most threatened and least protected biomes. Between fragmented fields and landscapes of singular beauty, unique species struggle to survive under intense pressure, with a mosaic of Conservation Units that remains insufficient to halt the encroachment and transformation of the original natural landscape.
The mini-documentary "CNCFlora Scientific Expeditions: Neglected Biomes - Pampa" follows the scientific expedition of a team from the National Center for Flora Conservation - Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden (CNCFlora/JBRJ) conducted in southern Rio Grande do Sul, with the mission of locating populations of threatened plants, updating registers, and generating fundamental data for assessing the risk of extinction.
There were over 200 botanical collections, new records of rare species, rediscovered populations, and essential information to guide conservation strategies within the scope of the GEF Terrestrial Project.
Every recorded coordinate is a step toward protecting what still remains. Every species found is a chance to change the future of the biome. The documentary invites you to discover why conserving the Pampa begins with going into the field.
This initiative is part of the project “Conservation, Restoration, and Management Strategies for the Biodiversity of the Caatinga, Pampa, and Pantanal (GEF Terrestrial),” an initiative coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, implemented by the IDB, and executed by Funbio. The project aims to conserve biomes historically underrepresented in the National System of Conservation Units (SNUC) through integrated actions focused on the creation and management of conservation units, the restoration of degraded areas, the monitoring of extinction risks, and coordination with local communities.
