Ecological restoration and biodiversity are the themes of the 13th Biodiversity Forum
On Thursday, August 28, the Botanical Garden Museum will hold the 13th edition of the Biodiversity Forum, featuring a lecture by biologist Guilherme Mazzochini, a researcher at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute. With the theme “Incorporating biodiversity into ecological restoration: from micro to macro,” the talk will address how biodiversity contributes to the success of restoration and the provision of environmental services, from the genetic level to the continental scale.
“Given the importance of biodiversity in the provision of various environmental services, many restoration programs have sought to increase it, but often with a focus only on the number of species planted,” says Guilherme Mazzochini.
The event will be held in person in the Museum's Multipurpose Room, with 50 places available on a first-come, first-served basis, and will also be broadcast live on the JBRJ YouTube channel. The activity will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and admission is free.
Held monthly at the Botanical Garden Museum, the Biodiversity Forum is coordinated by a council of experts from the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (JBRJ) and promotes debate on biodiversity conservation and essential environmental issues. The activity is aimed at experts, researchers, students, and other interested parties and offers a certificate of participation to the public.
Guilherme Mazzochini is a biologist with a master's and doctorate in Ecology, with extensive experience in ecological restoration projects in different Brazilian biomes. He served as a visiting professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and, in 2025, joined the research team at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute.
